Teaching description

Good knowledge the architecture of ancient buildings,  with particular reference to the technical and functional aspects;  familiarity with computer systems, i.e. CAD, would be preferable.  

Special cases and technical innovations in ancient buildings; survey method outlines for direct and indirect survey, for computerized systems applied in drawing and for virtual reconstructions.

Update know how on significant technical innovations of the construction technique of antiquity in relation to modern construction practice and to specific applications for the conservation and restauration  cultural heritage buildings; outlines on the   methodology of direct and indirect survey, and elementary know-how in virtual  reconstruction of ancient  buildings.

Lectures and Classes with the support of PPT presentations.

Module will be taught in a  2 week block mode and in presence.

If possible, survey exercises will be proposed.

 

Final Exam: This course will have a written final exam. The examination  will evaluate students’ understanding of the material presented in the course, and of the assigned readings. Grading:

Grades will be determined according to the following breakdown: Attendance and courseworks: 40%

Final exam: 60%

The course  aims to offer a reasoned compendium on the major technical innovations of the ancient construction technique, and to  explain the methodology of direct and indirect survey, and of  computerized systems applied in drawing and virtual reconstructions. If it will be possible, it will includes some survey exercises.
